Leap Day
One of my first tasks as a software intern, was to write code-analysis rules to help prevent the Y2K disaster. (Yes interns can do great things… OR, y2k was never meant to be taken seriously) One tidbit I learned was that Leap Years: do happen every 4 years but not every 100 years but do happen every 400 years Simple! Also, you could just click here.
God bless the alpha testers,
For they are the software-martyrs of the Internet! More seriously, our secret-little-web-startup recently entered into a semi-public, closed-alpha (figure that one out!). Against all odds, we’ve managed to find some really great individuals who are putting our stuff through its paces… and WOW. It’s just so exciting to see what different people are capable of, and see the site...
Static & Strong Typing
I can’t take it. I really can’t. I see moronic post after moronic post, all over the internet, bashing static/strong typing. I can’t comment on them all, so I’m going to ball up my response here: You’re all wrong. Let me qualify this by first saying: getting things done is #1 in terms of importance. So when all else is equal, use static typing. And when investing in...
Portal's 'Still Alive' coming to Rock Band →
I can’t begin to describe how happy this makes me.
SXSW
I’m going to be attending the Interactive portion of SXSW this year, March 7th - 11th in Austin. If anyone has any interesting ‘insider’ info, tips, suggestions, or wants to meet up, let me know! This is my first SXSW, and I hope it serves as a good road-marker, so that when it rolls around next year, I can post a recap of exactly how much our little startup that could has...
I don't care about your damn network.
CNN? CBS? NBC? ABC? MSNBC-HIJK-LMNOP? I don’t care about your damn network. I think it’s great that you’re in business. I like the shows you produce, the characters, the series, the jokes, the witty dramas, the special effects. I just don’t care about you as a virtual umbrella. I only care about your content, as an island, unto itself. So why is it that TV Channels, Hulu,...
Tipjoy →
A few months ago at Boston DevHouse, I met the multi-talented Ivan Kirigin. He took his idea, his business partner/wife, secured a spot with Y-Combinator, and launched Tipjoy: a widget / service for ‘tipping’ bloggers in a very smooth & rewarding way. Congratulations, Ivan!
Feed Fatigue (Free Idea #2?)
After seven hours of sleepless internet surfing, I’ve uncovered a few great new blogs to add to my RSS reader. There is one major problem: Am I ever going to read them? When I open my feed-reader each morning, I have about 120 posts to sort through. Most of the time I spend just mashing the spacebar, as I scan the title and whip past the chaff, searching for the wheat (rice & meat if you...
Losticil - for treating “Lost discussion deficiency syndrome” The timing is appropriate. Finally, I’m guilty of being that popcorn guy at the end.
Turning Point
My father emailed me asking if I was OK, because I haven’t blogged in a while. I’m here, and I’m OK, Dad. We’ll talk on the phone later, thought it appropriate to respond here. If anyone else is curious where I’ve been, we just finished moving our startup into our new startup offices, and it’s looking great! I’ll post more pictures + insightful...
