Shhh... The Secret to Perfect High-Fives Revealed
Close friends know I prefer the ‘fist-bump’ over high-fives. How often has a single, sloppy high-five left you embarrassed and feeling lame? Fist-bumps are cool, timely, and easy to execute flawlessly.  Now, I fear the high-five no more: with the “Thespian Method” of High Fives, you can always land a solid. The secret? Both you & your partner should focus your eyes...

Hackers begin to exploit a critical Internet... →
How can I describe this critical vulnerability? The attack enables “phishing” in the form of domain hijacking that would be impossible to detect. Imagine going to http://www.bankofamerica.com/ , logging in, only then to discover it was a hacker’s trap. Even if you used a bookmark. Even if you typed the URL in yourself. Even if your ISP solves the problem, other ISPs may be...

Am I a Psychotechnologist Now?
My daily concerns at our soon-to-be-not-so-secret startup are split between a few activities. Of course, I worry about bugs, scalability, new features, etc. Technology!  Increasingly, I worry about our community & the quality of participation. I fret over the social signals our design sends out. I think about the differences in user demographics of those acquired through different channels. I...

The Universe is far too Small
It’s a busy weekend, with a lot of events. So, I reserved a small stretch of this Saturday’s afternoon for errands, which included a haircut. I called at 3:45 to schedule an appointment, they told me to show up at 4. When I showed up, I was  asked to wait a ‘bit’ which turned into 20 minutes. Generally speaking (feel free to disagree in the comments) I’m a nice guy,...

via jaundicedeye My blog’s unifying theme is stuff I find interesting. Usually that means technology, or psychology, or all too frequently myself, but it turns out I’m also interested in goofy russian zombie b-movie-esque propaganda-ish music videos. Who knew!

iPhone + Pandora Radio = Killer Combo
Pandora is a very cool music website. You declare a few of your favorite musicians, and Pandora creates a custom radio station tailored to you. As you listen to the songs it has selected, you can “thumbs up” or “thumbs down”, further tailoring & tuning the music stream. Now, Pandora is on the iPhone/iPod via the App Store… and it rocks! It works great over WiFi,...

Programming: The New Literacy →
mattlanger: obsessivecompulsive: Power will soon belong to those who can master a variety of expressive human-machine interactions. “As the century goes on, those who don’t program — who can’t bend their increasingly sophisticated computers, machines, cars, and homes to their wills and needs — will, I predict, be increasingly left behind. Parents and teachers often disrespect today’s young...

Rocket Fuel →
livejamie: This is the most creative Tumblr theme I’ve seen in a long time. Can’t argue that, it’s a beautiful design. The designers, friends Jace & Matt, are very talented. I’m heading to DC this weekend to headlock them into producing a custom theme for me as well. If you’d like a custom theme of your own, headlocks aren’t necessary, just contact them through...

I’ve been using AOL Instant Messaging for a decade. You know what has never worked reliably? Sending pictures through IM. AOL can’t do it right, and Gtalk can’t do it at all.  NASA put a man on the moon a decade after being challenged to do so. Hope this provides some perspective.

Video by Gary Vaynerchuk, colorful host of Wine Library TV Gary was in Boston about two weeks ago, filming an episode and hosting a wine tasting, which was followed by an after party in the hotel’s club. It was a great event. After the party, I had the opportunity to sit down with him for about an hour, where we talked about the power of personal branding, and the gold-rush we’re...
